Mike version 2.7

Random Sampling of Matrix code by Mike Walters

Over the past year we at the Walters Software Studio have been working hard to present to you the 7th major feature release of version 2. We don’t think there are any backwards compatibility problems but if there are patches will be issues in the comments section below....read more »

3 Districts, 2 Counties, 1 shirt sleeve!

Northamptonshire Buckinghamshire Milton Keynes Badges

On Thursday I was walking my dog Oscar when I bumped into my local GSL, we got chatting about what they get upto and how the group was doing in my relatively new housing estate. The three youngest sections have been filled for the last 2-3 years so I’ve keenly been waiting for the Scouts to mature into a fine Explorer blend....read more »

Learning Sign Language

Two Hands making heart shape, saying 'love' without words

I’ve retaken up an interest in learning (British) Sign Language, I first started learning in middle school and then dropped the interest entirely in Secondary school, partially because there were no obvious ‘clubs’ let alone a ‘Sign’ one. At University I received a bit of a culture shock at the first Freshers Fair; so many clubs and Soc’s to choose from! In the end I whittled it down to 2, first choice was the University of Bristol Guide and Scout (UBGAS) Club, after 15 years of Scouting I was hardly going to give it up now! The second choice was the Kayaking club with the intention of completing the Physical part of my Queen Scout Award (which I now have ;) )....read more »

Playing by the Rules and winning outside convention

David and Goliath as stickman by MillzFlickz

I’ve just read an epic piece the like of which I would love to be able to write it involves Lawrence of Arabia, David and Goliath, Indiana Jones, an A.I. called Eurisko and the Redwood City girls Junior Basketball team....read more »

Bespoke Baby Babble Boom

There seems to be a confluence about babies and children talk around me at the minute, if I had brought up the subject I could understand it but colleagues are expanding their families, friends are becoming parents and its all over the television.

With the recession reducing the number of jobs and hours available for designers its not surprising that 3 of my colleagues are expanding their families. If you think about it by the time their babies can be sent to daycare (if the parent caring for them wants to go back to work) the economic crisis will be further along and jobs hopefully more available. Without knowing any other information you must admit it makes sense....read more »

25 Random Things

It’s doing the rounds and I’ve finally given in; these circulars are silly but they’re also fun to review after a year or so, plus it helps you to get to know me a little better if you’ve merely popped by my blog rather than being an avid reader.

Rules: Once you’ve been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it’s because I want to know more about you....read more »

Enchanted Day of the Snow +1

Snow Flakes on a Blue Gradient

In an unprecedented move Skadi, the Snowshoe, the Norse Goddess of Winter (and Hunting) has laid down 12cm (5 inches) of snow in the area, in particular about 15cm (8 inches) on my car. This has resulted in me having all my Work done for my Job today but not being able, or needed, to go in for more. So I’ve started the day doing all the little itty bitty tasks that could be done any time but more important things take president. This Snow day is extra or bonus time, which means that I can get my holey cow ideas done without negating anything else. As such I’ve published a Bucket List which I’m going to update from time to time when I achieve something, and quite likely post about it too!...read more »
